Speaking of the music of the future, cybercore is another stab in that direction. The genre, also known as electronicore and trancecore, has arisen this side of Y2K, blending electronic noise with heavy metal noise. Japanese band Sever Black Paranoia has been active in the genre since 2009. The CD obi for the band’s EP Metasentiment (Bullion/Go With Me, 2012) says, “Listeners won’t get bored, thanks to fluctuating dramatic melodies incorporating various musical elements and unexpected developments amidst chaotic compositions,” and notes that vocalist Daisuke does all the shouts, growls and clean parts on his own. I’m not sure how impressive that is given the amount of Autotune and other filters at work here. Fans of hyper electronic music, hyper J-pop and hyper metalcore will enjoy this, but others may find themselves wishing for something, anything that sounds like it hasn’t come out of a coked-up gonk droid.

It is nice, however, to know someone’s reading, so please clap or comment to let me know somebody’s out there. Gladius adhuc lucet.

I usually write about the intersection of arts and ideas. Right now, mostly lighter, shorter pieces on whatever I feel like.
